We live in the future!
Do you remember when you were a kid and you would imagine what "the future" would be like? I'm not talking about just getting older and being able to do grown-up things, I am talking about the futuristic-future! Like we would all be in space suits and driving flying cars an stuff like that. Well, I can remember some of the things I thought would be in the future and I am here to tell you that from some recent observations I am convinced that we have arrived at "the future"! Of course, I felt compelled to share them with y'all!
One of my observations happened this morning when I was sitting at the drive-thru window at McDonalds, of all places, waiting for my hazelnut iced coffee (mmmm...). I heard "moving noises" just inside the window, but didn't see anyone. It kind-of freaked me out, 'cause I really couldn't see anyone inside so I moved my car up a bit then saw that it was a machine moving! I watched and later asked the drive-thru worker if I was seeing what I was seeing. It was a soda machine that was "talking" to the register! When a drink order was taken, it sent it to the soda machine and a correct sized cup dropped from the dispenser onto a cup-holder trolley. It then moved around the track to the ice area where ice plunked into the cup before it moved to the drink area. The correct amount of soda whooshed into the cup and it was all ready to go! I asked the gal and she said, "We don't have to do a thing!" Wow!!
The second happened while I was watching a TV commercial. I actually have to start this story on the people-mover on the Space Mountain ride at Disney World. Do any of you remember the little animatronic "scenes" of two little kids talking on the telephone? In the first area you see a little girl in her bedroom in China (?) and she was talking on a TV phone and there was a boy on the monitor doing Karate. Then in the second area you see the little boy in his room in America doing Karate and the little girl in China was on the TV/phone. You could see all the "network wires" overhead that was connecting them. As a kid I always thought that was cool and I couldn't wait for that to happen 'cause I would know we were in "the future". Fast forward to that TV commercial...it shows a father and son talking on a video phone and they are in different time zones, dad is waking up and his son is going to bed. They are having a moment and sharing an Oreo. Know the one? As I was watching that I had one of those "Whoa!" moments. I thought that not only did we have that "future" technology that I thought was so cool when I was a kid, but it was such a commonplace notion that it wasn't advertising the technology-it was advertising a cookie!
So there you go! Proof that we live in "the future"! Now all we need is the Toyota Winged-Matrix that runs off Biomass to hit the market and the solar suits and we'll be set!

Space Mtn also had a thing where people were shopping from the comfort of their homes, lol.
