Recipe Club

Date: Thursday, August 2nd, 6-8pm                                                                                       At At the meeting you will get a pre-cut kit to create a 6x6" scrapbook page designed around that months spotlight recipe and get to taste a sample of the recipe.  Each month one club member will have the chance to be the guest chief and share their own recipe with the club.  At the end of the year you will have 11 new recipes to cook for your friends and family!

Tim Holtz Meets Graphic 45 Jewelry Armoire 

Teacher: Liz Thogersen Ahrens

Join Liz Ahrens as she takes you through the steps to create this gorgeous jewelry armoire using the Tim Holtz Configuration box and Graphic 45 “A Lady’s Diary” papers. We’ll be using the Tim Holtz Decorative Strip to coordinate the paper lace as well as the Tattered Pinecone die to create your “pinecone” roses for this project. We’ll also use pieces from Idea-ology Product line. Supplies to Bring: Paper Trimmer, Precision Scissors, Scoring tool, Bone Folder, (we will also have one in class) Pencil and Eraser, Ruler, small bottle of Mod Podge (available at Whim So Doodle) and paint brush, Adhesive: redline tape or score tape and glossy accents. Bring a little snack if you like as this is a 3 hour class. Note: Kits will be available with written directions and pictures.

Copic Basic class is designed to teach you the pertinent information on how to properly use your Copic Markers. You won’t want to miss this class. Liz Ahrens is now the Doodle’s Intermediate Certified Copic Designer and brings a new technique to this class…and look at the fabulous Penny Black Images you will be using for your designs. In this class, we’ll focus on the pink shades for these fabulous dogwood flowers. What to bring: RV10, 11, 13, 14 and colorless blender in addition to your regular card making took kit to include your paper trimmer, scissors, adhesives and pop dots.

Document the highlights of summer with a fun and interactive Mixed Mini Album. We will use the new Simple Stories Summer Fresh collection to make a Mini Album full of pages, tags, and pockets. This mini has a variety of fun textures and layers, and we will cover lots of techniques in class! Just a few of these are: Binding using a Binding Tool, Sewing on Paper, and we will use the Silhouette Cameo too! Note: Some items (i.e., tickets and brads) may vary slightly. Do you love your Copic Markers? Do you want to take your talents to the next level? Whim So Doodle is offering this series of classes just for you. Liz Ahrens, Intermediate Copic Certified Designer, will be teaching the Copic Coloring Guide, Level 2: Nature. Each class will consist of several chapters from this fabulous book. Each month, you will know what will be covered and what markers you should have for the class. You will receive printed images from the CD that is included in the book as well as instructor guided instructions for each. You will have the option of gathering your completed images in beautiful cinch bound binder (included in the class) for your reference or creating cards as you go along. Prerequisite: you must own and bring to each class the Copic Coloring Guide Level 2: Nature, published by Annie’s Attic. These are available at Whim So Doodle for your shopping pleasure. Tim Holtz tags throughout the year.  You don’t have to wait for Christmas anymore.  Join us each month for a new tag featuring a creative new Tim Holtz Design.  This is a workshop format class and self-directed.  Please bring you own distress inks and other consumable supplies.  We will provide the stamps or die cuts that he uses each month.  This class will be the second Tuesday of each month for the next 12 months.

"Dying for Dylusions"

Wednesday, June 20th

Join me and make this joyful, inky tag book using Dylusions ink sprays and stamps. I'll show you four techniques to use with the ink sprays (wet on wet, ghosting, oil resist, and gesso resist). Then we'll use fun and funky Dylusions stamps to decorate our book. It's a colorful explosion of joy! Please bring: Scissors, Adhesive (like Tombo Liquid glue (green lid) or a glue stick), Black Ranger Archival pad, if you have one. I will have some to share, but it might be nice to have your own. OPTIONAL: Sewing machine and black thread, if you wish to sew on your book.

I always say I don't know how to draw, yet I have taught myself how to draw faces. I will teach you how to draw a face with easy tips and tricks! We'll use the "magic pencil" to make your faces look artsy and interesting. I'll also show you how to paint the faces with artistic, fun colors. Even if you can't draw, you can learn to draw faces. I promise! Please bring: Gesso Acrylic paint, Paint brushes, Gel medium, Regular pencil

"This is Me" Maya Road Canvas Mini

We are going to combine two Maya Road canvas mini albums to create one amazing project! We'll do several different inky techniques with Maya Mist, make our own patterned paper, and create a one-of-a-kind keepsake. The theme of my book is, "This is Me," so my pictures are self-portraits. If you'd like to change the theme of the book, no problem...simply bring the types of photos you like. Please bring: Black pen for journaling, Scissors, Good liquid adhesive (I use Tombow glue with the green lid) Black ink pad for inking edges, Paintbrush (such as a size 6 or 8 round or flat), 10-20 small photographs, about 1.5"x2.5"

"Encaustic Tag Book"

Come and learn about the ancient art of encaustics. We'll be using beeswax and irons to make fun and addicting beeswax collages. We'll play with stamps, inks, acrylic paint, beeswax...oh my! The tags will go in an accordion book structure. Beeswax is fun and addictive...come and play! Please bring: Standard crafting tool kit (scissors, paint brushes, pencil, etc.), White acrylic gesso Gel medium or adhesive for gluing tags into accordion, Acrylic paint in your favorite colors. We only need a bit of paint, you don't need a lot. A small collection of collage papers & fabrics that appeal to you. I will give you some, but your project will be more personal if you use papers & fabrics that you like. Optional: Any of your favorite stamps. I will bring an large assortment for class use, but bring any that you like as well. Optional: Permanent Ink pads. I like Ranger Archival pads because they're permanent and stamp well on paint and ink. I will have some to share, but it might be nice for you to have your own.

"Introduction to Art Journaling"

Have you been curious about art journaling, but are not sure where to start? Come and play with me for an entire day! We'll explore what art journaling is and I will teach you techniques for creating fun and expressive pages. I'll also give you some tips for page topics and writing on your pages. No previous art experience is required. I'll show you how I get images onto my pages without having to draw. We'll cover: painted backgrounds, gesso texture, masking and stenciling, layering, top texture, collage, and journaling. Supplies You Need: Basic tool kit (scissors, pencil, etc.), White acrylic gesso. Acrylic paints in an assortment of colors (I prefer artist-quality paint, but bring what you've got). Paintbrushes-one or two should be fine...I prefer a large flat brush, about ¾". Foam brushes will get you by but are not ideal. Pen for writing...a Sharpie works well. Glue stick or liquid glue for adhesive. I use gel medium as my adhesive (Liquitex or Golden matte gel). Gel is not a class requirement, though....so if you have a glue stick, it will work fine. Optional: a journal to work in. We will be working in class on watercolor paper, but if you'd also like to work in a journal, feel free. Choose a journal with heavy pages-preferably watercolor paper. Optional: any papers or scraps or pictures that inspire you. I'll be giving you an assortment of ephemera, but if you have something you love, feel free to bring it.

“10 Things I Love” Printers Tray

Alter a printer's tray to create a personalized home decor or chic gift for a loved one. Learn to make cute accents along the way. Printer's trays, papers, embellishments and paint are provided. You bring photos (printed or trimmed to 2.75"x3.75"), journaling and the basic supplies listed. What to bring: various size circle punches, Ranger glossy accents, Adhesives for paper and bulky items, pop dots, photos, 10 short sentences about the person you are making the decor for printed on white or cream cardstock (we will cut them in strips), trimmer, scissors and baby wipes.

Do your sewing needles a home? Create a four page needle storage system for all your different types of needles using the Bind-it-All system and a Cover-All. There will be stamping, inking, sewing, and some simple embroidery. Did you know that our own Jill Orobello is a “Certified Ranger Educator.”  Jill and her daughter, Tayler are among the few who have graduated from Ranger University.  Jill has been taught directly from Tim Holtz, Ranger’s Creative Director, all of his hands-on techniques with Perfect Pearls, Melt Art, Inks, Paints and Embossing Powders. Jill is now taking this knowledge and teaching a monthly class highlighting one technique each month.  At the end of the year, you will know how to use all of these amazing products.

A new year is upon us and it's the perfect time to make this chubby little 2012 album using the Melissa Frances calendar album, 6x6 page protectors, and a darling assortment of colorful products from October Afternoon. The 36 pages of this album include a tabbed divider page for each month, a pocket page for each month with a calendar printed on it, and a page protector layout for each month. There are pockets and fold-outs and lots of different ideas for altering the page protectors to include several photos for each month. You asked for it…join in and learn all about the fabulous new line of Vintaj Jewelry pieces.  In this class you will learn 4 different techniques used to create fabulous charms that you attach to the Vintaj Chain Necklace included in your kit!  Use one charm or all 4 charms – it’s your design.  This is a must take class for those of you that have been asking about the new Vintaj line.  We’ll be using the Vintaj Embossing folders as well as heat embossing, sanding, inking, beading and just plain having fun. Note: Some items in class kit may vary slightly. What to bring: your jewelry making kit to include needle nose pliers, wire cutters, Vintaj Sanding Block, glossy accents (all available at the store) and any special charms you might like to incorporate with your creations.  Your kit will include everything you need to create 4 charms and a necklace.  We will have limited tools to work with, but we can share. 

 

Scrapbook Basics – Beginning Scrapbooking

Copic Advanced classes are designed to take you beyond the art of coloring – new and different techniques each month.  This month’s class we’ll focus on several different distressing and texturizing techniques as well as shading.  You will love to share this card with that special person!  This class will offer several Loralie Stamp designs for you to choose from and lots to learn!  Hope to see you in class! Build Your Card Stash –Graphic 45

Recipe Club

Recipe club is back! We are happy welcome Lynnette to the Whim So Doodle teaching team! Lynnette will be heading up our new monthly recipe club. She will host the club on the first Thursday of every month at 6pm.  At the meeting you will get a pre-cut kit to create a 6x6” scrapbook page designed around that months spotlight recipe and get to taste a sample of the recipe.  Each month one club member will have the chance to be the guest chief and share their own recipe with the club.  At the end of the year you will have 11 new recipes to cook for your friends and family!

 

Lynnette is also offering a monthly recipe swap for those who want to participate and gain more new recipes!  Swap members will create seven 6x6” scrapbook layouts designed around their recipe.  Members will swap with each other at the monthly meetings and take home six new recipe and one of each recipe page will be displayed at the store.

 Club members will get a 10% discount the night of the meeting on any regular priced merchandise in the store.

Copic Basic class is designed to teach you the pertinent information on how to properly use your Copic Markers.  You won’t want to miss this class.  Liz Thogersen is now the Doodle’s Intermediate Certified Copic Designer and brings a new technique to this class…and look at the adorable Loralie Owl Stamp you will be using for your design.  In this class, you will be using Earth shades and one Yellow Red shade of the of Copic Markers. 

 

Please bring your markers to class to include E70, 71, 59, 74, 19 and YR23 in addition to your regular card making took kit to include your paper trimmer, scissors, adhesives and pop dots.

Distressed Denim mini book

with Jen Starr

Wednesday, October 12th  6-9pm $40   This comfortably distressed 6x9” mini-book will be created with a mix of fun materials and media including denim, corrugated cardboard, chipboard, kraft paper, Basic Grey new “Out of Print” line, burlap, Crafter’s Workshop Templat During the creative process, we will concentrate on techniques using Tim's new DISTRESS STAINS, creating some interactive elements plus some fun and unique stamping techniques...Oh, and just wait until you see how we are going to distress the denim!!es, embellishments made from Tim Holtz dies and texture fades, a little paint and more...

By the end of class you will have a great chunky book brimming with techniques!

 Please bring to class:  a variety of adhesives (Fabri-tac  or Beacon’s 3 in 1 works great for denim and burlap is you have it), Heat gun if you have one, paper trimmer, scissors and something to punch holes such as a Big Bite or crop-a-dile.

 

**NOTE** PLEASE wear OLD clothes as we will be incorporating bleach in to some of the techniques!!

Copic Advanced classes are designed to take you beyond the art of coloring – new and different techniques each month.   In this class, you will use your choice of markers to create this one of a kind stamped image.  This is a fabulous class for those of you that have taken the Skin and Hair classes recently offered by Liz.  Don’t worry, thought, if you still feel a bit intimidated.  Liz will guide you through each step.  You will complete your masterpiece with Masking and Airbrushing techniques you will use over and over.  Bling it up with some gold outline stickers and display proudly on an easel or share as a card.   What to bring: Your collection of Copic Markers as well as your traditional card making tool kit.
